New for 2018 – Choirs at the Festival

This year the Markham Village Music Festival is expanding their musical offerings by showcasing some wonderful local choirs.

Please check the Entertainment Schedule for their performance times.

Yorkminstrels Show Choir

The Yorkminstrels is a dynamic, mixed-voice choir, based in North York, serving the greater Toronto area. The choir was founded in 1974 by several members of the Yorkminstrels mainstage company which presented large-scale musical productions to the North York community for five decades. Their aim was to bring music into the community and reach new audiences.

Under the musical direction of Melissa Lauren, and with our talented accompanist Anne Lee, The Yorkminstrels Show Choir brings songs to life in an entertaining, dramatic way.

Men of Note

The Men of Note choral group are a four part harmony male voice choir who began in 1999 with seventeen voices and now boast some 40 plus members.

The group’s mission is stated as follows:
Men of Note is a Male Voice Choir built on a foundation of Fellowship, Community Service and a mutual quest for Musical Excellence. We strive to provide entertainment, in the form of a wide variety of music, to enrich our community and to reach out to develop musical connections with other choirs, both across Canada and abroad.

As such the group has assembled a pleasing balance of tenor, baritone and rich, resonant bass voices that together create an almost perfect blend of sweet harmonious sound. The group believe that their selections of music will appeal to most everyone, a mix of favourite and familiar melodies for spirituals, sacred anthems, folk and traditional songs, tunes from the musical stage and sometimes, a love ballad from the hit parade.

Village Voices

Village Voices was formed in 1989. It is a not-for-profit adult mixed voices community choir which performs in the Markham community and surrounding area.

Village Voices is member of Choirs Ontario, SOCAN, York Region Arts Council and the Markham Arts Council. Our director, Oksana Vignan, is a talented conductor and pianist. Winter and Spring programs are presented each year.

They include traditional as well as contemporary works. We also serve the community by performing in senior homes.
